"Beginners," the new album by Chicago's Dream Version, is self aware, sweet at heart, and just a little literary. It's also a solid indie album, which I find comforting. I suspect that's because it reminds me that music can still sound both like indie rock and exciting and tell-your-friends-able, something I forget perhaps unfairly all too often these days. Maybe it's also comforting because of the sincere, down-to-earth way Alec Jensen writes about the getting older, the idea of home, love, and more. Choosing a track to share was tough, but Romance is an upbeat microcosm of all that.
